About Us

Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Canada is a one of the fastest growing, critical thinking international development organizations in the world. We believe that through raising awareness and acting on our knowledge that we can work together to eliminate poverty and improve the lives of the 800 million people who go hungry every day.

We are a group of dedicated students from all areas of campus. Although we are predominantly engineers there is a place for everyone in EWB.

What We Do

Engineers Without Borders has two main areas of focus: in Canada programs and overseas work.

Our in Canada work focuses primarily on raising awareness about international development challenges and what actions we as Canadians can take. We do this through presentations in high schools, local clubs, markets, on campus and by running regular meetings and workshops.

Our overseas work focuses primarily on working with local Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and communities. EWB believes that sustainable development requires more than the simple installation of technologies however. To have the greatest impact overseas we focus on building capacity rather than the delivery of technological goods. At Waterloo we send a few students every summer and are sending a student this fall to work for four months with community members in Western and Southern Africa. Waterloo also supports long term volunteers, who work overseas for at least eight months or for as long as several years.
