Fair Trade

Fair Trade is an alternative system of international trade which focuses on fair compensation, proper working conditions, sustainable agriculture and local economic growth. It is a way for you, the consumer, to have a better idea of how your purchases are produced and where the money that you pay for them is going.

This fall, EWB is going to be focusing on Fair Trade and other trade issues. You may see us out around campus talking to people about Fair Trade, selling fair trade items and trying to encourage campus vendors to offer fair trade alternatives.

What You Can Do

The first step in making a difference is education. All term, our EWB Presents... educational series will be focusing on issues relating ot Fair Trade. For a more discussion-oriented approach, feel free to check out our Discussion Groups, where we will further exploring some of those issues. Finally, throughout the term, we will be having booths and special events such as debates and movie nights that you are welcome to attend to find out a little bit more.

Once you know a little bit about Fair Trade, it is time for action! Take the Fair Trade Challenge and push yourself to make a personal change. Join the SWAT team and help inform others about Fair Trade. Discover the High School Outreach team and teach high schoolers about how Fair Trade could affect their lives.
